Responsibilities of the Property Tax Division:

Settlement and distribution of property tax collections

Excise tax allocation and distribution

Obtains and publishes tax rates from the Department of Local Government Finance

Prepares Abstract of all taxable property and taxes due

Accepts and posts applications for exemptions

Produces and maintains Tax Sale and Certified to Commissioner properties

Notifies taxpayers of surplus and administers refund when proper documentation is provided

Creates bills for Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) in accordance with the City of Fort Wayne, Allen County Department of Planning Services, and other designated certification bodies

Maintains reports on and distributes dog tags and buggy plates for township trustees

Verifies property ownership of taxpayers on Bond Petitions

Ensures accuracy of property ownership

Maintains plat maps for 19 townships ensuring proper street names, subdivisions, splits, and combinations

Changes mailing addresses with notarized affidavits
Exemption Information:
Residential Property Homestead Exemption Mortgage Exemption Blind / Disabled Exemption Disabled Veterans Exemption (Please note: The property value limit has been increased for 2007 payable 2008 in two areas of the Veterans exemption. Contact the Auditor's office if you have questions about qualifying for this exemption.) Filing Deadlines: December 31 of the year the exemption is desired (Must own the property in that year) May 15 for Personal Property May 15 for Non-Taxables March 2 for Mobile Homes*
* Over 65 exemptions for Mobile Homes can be filed up to March 31. All other Mobile Home exemptions must be filed by March 2.
